IF ONLY the Ryder Cup had been played at Saddleworth Golf Club, then there may have been a different result.
While the USA recaptured the cup in Hazeltine National Club, Minnesota, Saddleworth’s own version went the way of Europe.
The women at Saddleworth decided to hold their own Ryder Cup with the same format of foursomes, fourball and singles, but over one day instead of three.
Sheila Cooper captained Europe and Hazel Rogerson America as they even had buggies to follow the progress of their respective teams.
Europe won emphatically 5.5-2.5 in what was described as a team effort.
