Saddleworth’s best gardens have been recognised as residents and community groups showed off their green-fingered talents in the annual Saddleworth Parish Council In Bloom competition.
Although fewer gardens were entered this year, judges said the standard remained high, with colourful planting, creative containers and spaces designed to encourage wildlife among the highlights.
Judging took place in July, before the hottest weather arrived, meaning gardens were still displaying an impressive variety of plants and colours.
Brenda Gates, of Grotton, took the Small Garden title, while the Medium Garden category produced joint winners – Dr Eamon O’Daly, of Uppermill, and Fiona Turner, of Greenfield.
Eileen Jones, of Springhead, was named winner of the Large Garden category.
In Diggle, Carolyn Robinson took the Container Garden prize, while Love Lydgate was recognised for its efforts in the Community Garden category.
Judges also highlighted the work being done to make gardens welcoming to wildlife, with ponds, bird boxes and feeders spotted during their visits.
One particularly impressive entry featured a bug hotel stretching along the length of a garden boundary fence.
Every entrant received a certificate, while category winners were presented with a trophy and voucher.
The competition will return in 2027, with details of next year’s Saddleworth in Bloom expected to be announced from April through Saddleworth Parish Council and the local press.
