SANTA Claus has come to Scouthead and Austerlands as the area’s Christmas lights switch-on has been hailed a huge success.
More than 80 local children and their families met Father Christmas in his grotto, where he listened to their wishes and gave them small gifts.
After arriving accompanied by Mother Christmas and her white horse, Charlie, the big man then joined Mayor of Austerlands, Sue Smith, for the main event at Scouthead’s Three Crowns.
Children also showed off their crafty side, in the best way, with activities including a make a reindeer decoration and a name the teddy competition.
Donations to Oldham Foodbank were also invited from those who were able to contribute.
Community group chair Robert Cragg said “This is the first time we have managed to secure Santa for our Christmas Event.
“We were delighted that so many local children were able to meet him and at the same time collect donations for those who might be struggling at this time of year.
“Thanks to everyone who helped make the event a great success.”
