FIND out about an exciting host of groups and activities on your doorstep at an Open Day at The Satellite Centre in Greenfield.

The day is open to local residents and the wider Saddleworth and Lees Community on Sunday, March 25 from 11 am to 3pm.
The event will be opened by the Mayor of Oldham Cllr Shadab Qumer and will feature a range of activities and publicity stalls.
“It’s an opportunity for people to see what the building has to offer,” says Mike Rooke, chair of Saddleworth’s Sports Youth and Community Association, which runs the building.
“We’ve made some significant renovations and refurnishing since re-opening as a community centre in September 2016.
“Apart from offering people the chance to tour the building and visit a variety of stalls manned by our user groups and partners, there will also be performances and practical demos.”
Hot and cold refreshments will be served by young people from YoLo, Saddleworth’s local youth team, in the Satellite’s downstairs café.
Satellite’s groundbreaking Body Mind and Well-being project will also be represented by various key providers and participants, including Sarah Willis of MIND and other project leaders.
Lisa Butterworth and other members of the Oldham Reiki Network will talk about the benefits of using Reiki to manage your own heaIth and wellbeing, and mini Reiki treatments and information will be offered.
Activities will take place upstairs throughout the day, including a demonstration from junior Karate club led by Garry Lewis and a showcase of tunes from Uke-Can-Do-It played under the leadership of Reg Guerin.
The day will end with a new dramatization of local author Barbara Ann’s Policeman Pete and Maisie the Calf performed by Funky Fitness and Fun, a group supporting adults with additional needs.
“Our members love reading the books and very much enjoy using their significant skills to bring the stories to life,” says support worker Catherine Moody.
“They create their own choreography to add drama and effect to the telling of the story.
“Thanks to the leadership and hard work of Carita Smith and Rob Burns-Dyson, this charitable interest company has just celebrated its 10th birthday.”
Organisations with stalls on the day will include: Saddleworth & Lees District Team, Saddleworth Parish Council, Greenfield & Grasscroft Residents Association, Right Start, MAHDLO, Action Together Oldham, the University Centre, Oldham and user groups including Uppermill FC, YoLo and Babyballet.
