Search is on for unsung community stalwarts

DO you know a worthy candidate for Saddleworth’s prestigious Above and Beyond Awards?

The search to celebrate and praise an individual or an organisation worthy of joining the elite galaxy of award holders is underway.

The awards, backed by the Saddleworth and Lees District Partnership, celebrate villagers who go the extra mile for their neighbours or community with selfless and kind acts.

The scheme was launched last year across the villages, and saw a host of individuals receive awards for their dedication to the area.

The awards for 2018 will be widened to also include churches, groups, societies and voluntary organisations, with winners decided by an independent panel of judges.

Cllr Adrian Alexander, Chair of the Saddleworth and Lees District Partnership, said: “The awards are tangible recognition of the hard-work and dedication by our unsung locals.

“All previous award winners have rightly been praised for their marvellous efforts and I’m looking forward to meeting more remarkable folk from our villages.”
