SHEPHERDS BOY, last year’s Saddleworth Charity Pool League winners, are runaway leaders in the current campaign.
They already hold a nine-point lead over second-placed Uppermill Granby.
It is far more interesting at the bottom of the table with five teams battling to avoid the drop.
Meanwhile, it is incredibly tight at the top of division two where Springhead Top House leading the way.
But with only seven points separating the top seven in the eight-strong league, it is a case of everybody beating each other and the lead changing hands nearly every week.
Two charities are to benefit from last year’s Gallon winners; the Shepherds Boy chose “4Louis” in aid of bereaved parents who suffer the trauma stillborn or neo-natal death while Springhead Liberal Club selected “Cascade Baby Bundles” that aims to support the parents of newborn babies by providing a gift containing items of clothing and essentials that will help cushion the financial impact on a family experiencing hardship. Each charity will receive £250.
This season the league is to increase the number of charities to six with donations totalling £720.
