Shock closure of popular Saddleworth restaurant announced

A SADDLEWORTH restaurant has left diners heartbroken by announcing its shock closure.

But the hope is Dinnerstone can reopen and thrive under new ownership.

The venue, on Uppermill’s High Street, has established itself as a fixture over the past two decades.

However, on Sunday, January 4, owner Charles Brierley – who also owns Lydgate’s White Hart – revealed the decision had been taken to close its doors.

In a statement, he wrote: “20 years ago, in 2006, I opened Dinnerstone.

“It is with sadness that I am making the difficult decision to close the restaurant.

“I would like to personally thank the fantastic team, feedback this December has been excellent, and they have maintained the business’s Tripadvisor rating as a 3′ top restaurant in Oldham.

“A well-deserved ranking and testament to their professionalism and hard work. Customers will continue to see many of the team at the White Hart at Lydgate.

“Thank you all for supporting the business over the last 20 years.”

Dinnerstone’s closure does not leave customers or suppliers in the lurch.

Mr Brierley vowed that any vouchers or deposits may be redeemed while still valid at the White Hart.

He also promised all suppliers will be paid in full, adding: “The company has NOT gone into liquidation and WILL meet its fiscal responsibilities.

“A letter advising has been issued.”

Mr Brierley may have decided to close Dinnerstone, but the hope is it can be taken on by a new owner.

Its success showed the market is there and he believes the right person can make it work.

He continued: “Not all good things come to an end, but unfortunately my time operating Dinnerstone has.

“However, that leaves an opportunity for someone else. Who knows what the future holds?”

Dinnerstone was closed for 20 months following the outbreak of Covid-19 and resulting lockdowns.

When it did reopen in early 2023, it was described as ‘exciting and a new challenge.’

The premises saw a new kitchen and a new menu. However, this decision marks the end of Mr Brierley’s involvement.
