Sorella brings tastes of Italy to Saddleworth

THE mouth-watering flavours of Italy are coming to Saddleworth – all the way from Royton as a top family restaurant expands into the area.

Mazzo has established itself over the hill as a popular spot for dinners looking to enjoy deli-cious, authentic food from the Mediterranean.

Now those same tasty delights can be enjoyed at Sorella in Uppermill as the Hoxhas opened the doors to their second restaurant on the high street at the end of August.

“We’ve chosen to call it Sorella which means sister as it is our sister restaurant and will be run by our sister Atdhetare,” explained Bislim, who runs Mazzo as well as Vicino tapas bar with his family.

“It will be a true Italian Cucina with authentic food, like Mazzo. We hope diners will come in and spending a relaxing evening with family or friends.

“We’re not another bar and people can’t come in just for a drink – it will be purely a restau-rant.”

Sorella, in the premises which previously housed BED, has a stylishly simple and fresh look, cre-ated by Bislim’s second sister Arneta, who is an architect.

An extensive refurbishment over the summer has seen a complete transformation of the interior, with everything but the flooring and bar top being replaced.

There is now a larger kitchen which can meet the demand for 40 people seated inside as well as another 20 outside on the terrace.

Bislim added: “It has been a long time coming and now we’re really excited to show people what we’ve done. We hope everybody enjoys the food and atmosphere we have created.

Atdhetare added: “We’ve wanted to get a place over here for about two years. We looked at the former Spar but that didn’t happen in the end – but we’re here now in a great spot.”

Sorella will be open on Wednesday to Sunday from 10am-9pm offering breakfast until 2.30pm, a lunch menu, and then dinner from 5pm.

The first group to get a taste of the restaurant was Saddleworth Rotary Club, with 32 members and their partners enjoying a night there, with music by George King.

The following day family, friends and Mazzo regulars gathered to celebrate the launch before the doors were officially opened to the public on Friday, August 30.

Visit Sorella at 38 High Street, Uppermill, Saddleworth. Advance bookings advised by calling 01457 877477. Also find them on Facebook.
