Special guests speak out to help Saddleworth Cancer Research annual lunch

By Niamh Gallagher

SPECIAL GUESTS took centre stage as Saddleworth Cancer Research UK Committee held their annual lunch at The White Hart, Lydgate.

110 guests enjoyed a wonderful meal, followed by a raffle and a silent auction, as the wonderful event raised £2,000 and counting.

Mary Harthan, Anne Sykes, Clive Davis (President), Gill Spurr, Gordon Burns, Julia Kent, Karen Brooks, Kevin Sinfield, Jenny Nuttall and Godfrey Adams

The highlight was a question and answer session with famous local rugby player Kevin Sinfield and former BBC television presenter Gordon Burns.

Gordon demonstrated his knowledge of rugby by highlighting the many successes of Kevin’s career.

Kevin, who was extremely modest in talking about himself and his success, demonstrated a fine example of how to rise to the very top of your game, and stay there.

When asked about the highlight of his sport achievements, he referred to coming second in the Sports Personality Of The Year 2015 – only losing to tennis star Andy Murray.

Saddleworth Cancer Research UK Committee, some of who are founder members, have shown great dedication for almost 40 years.

Their efforts have raised many thousands of pounds for the Manchester Centre for Research into all forms of cancer. A massive thank you to them and all who support Cancer Research UK locally by attending their various events.
