A NEW dining experience is available in Saddleworth with more than an exotic twist.
And what Springhead does today, the rest of Oldham and Greater Manchester may eventually follow.
Certainly, The Spice Tree on Oldham Road is all changed from its previous incarnation as The Dog and Partridge pub.
The food available is now authentic Indian cuisine and along with the beer and wine, diners can enjoy the area’s first shisha lounge.
The owners, who have swapped London’s bright lights for Oldham, haven’t scrimped on their new investment.
Around £20,000 has been spent on shisha equipment and another £10,000 on tasteful and distinctive seating produced by designers used by Jamie Oliver.
But the trio of businessmen behind The Spice Tree venture say their primary aim is to produce a menu of Asian dishes to tempt, tantalise and treat diners with dishes they won’t find elsewhere.
Traditionally, many ‘Indian’ restaurants are run by Pakistanis and Bangladeshis.
The Spice Tree cuisine experience may be born in London but heralds from India, which is the basis for the varied menu on offer to suit vegetarian and non-vegetarians alike.
A spokesperson for the Spice Tree said: “The experience of having a meal, a drink and then a shisha is a big concept in London.
“But it’s not been seen around here before so we thought there was an opportunity to bring it to this area. Everyone is loving it.
“The menu will change as we get to know more about the area and what people want.
“Our main business is the food and drink but the Shisha experience is also proving popular.
“Sometimes people just want to talk and chill, and our shisha area is ideal for that.
“Most people come in once or twice a week for may be an hour to 90 minutes.”
There are a wide variety of shisha flavours to smoke, from Irn Bru to frozen apple, coconut to gum.
Prices start from £12 and you can visit The Spice Tree, on Oldham Road, Springhead, on Tuesday to Thursday between 3pm-12.30am, or Friday and Saturday between 3pm-1.30am.

I haven’t tried the shisha but have been a few times for food and everything I have tried has been delicious! Lovely staff and very attentive service, we’ll certainly be back.
