CARING RESIDENTS in Springhead and Lees are pulling together to save a flailing volunteer community group.
Lees Community Association (LCA) was being in the process of being disbanding because of a lack of volunteers willing to take on the officer roles.

They had appealed for local support but the lack of response left them believing the association was doomed and the frustrated committee had called it a day.
But now after an emergency public meeting a way forward has been put on the table for Springhead Community Association and the disbanded Lees Community Association to work together.
Around a dozen members from the two areas attended a coffee morning at Springhead Community Centre in March to discuss the plans and indicate their interest.
Barbara Beeley, Chair of Springhead Community Association, who organised the meeting, explained: “It was a positive meeting with discussions around the various events which LCA ran and the opportunities of working together in the future.
“We now have an embryonic agreement and we shall have to see how it grows.
“We have had very differing paths up to this point although both Associations have the aim of involving and improving the local community.”
Jenny Daubney, previously secretary of the LCA, thanked Barbara Beeley for providing this way forward for members of the local community.
She said: “Although it was very disappointing to disband the LCA, this is a great opportunity for residents to continue to enjoy some of the events we previously arranged.
“We have always had tremendous support from the community at events and it is good to know that Springhead Community Association is willing to explore joint working.”
The LCA raised more than £20,000 for local projects over five years and held village fetes, Christmas switch-ons, school Art, Poetry and Craft competitions and more.

Could you please advise if it would be possible for a local karate club (Kenny Karate) to get involved in the upcoming Summer Fair at Springhead FC. They would like to do some demonstrations throughout the day and run some kind of stall to try and raise money for club funds that will help for an upcoming competion in Berlin in October. Please advise if this is possible and I will pass onto the Club. Regards Mr Steve Kelly
Thank you for your comment – it would be best if you get in touch with Springhead Community Association directly to organise this – please phone the chair Barbara Beeley on 0161 652 0930.
