AN ICONIC pub in Scouthead has been sold for property development.
The Star Inn at Huddersfield Road was bought six years by a team of locals who formed a property company.
But with the downturn in the economic climate the pub has remained closed ever since.
Now Jonathan Barlow from Uppermill has bought the premises for an undisclosed sum and plans to turn it into three dwellings.
He said: “The place has lots of history and I want to retain that.”
The Star, in a key position at the junction of Platting Road, Doctor Lane and Oldham Road, formerly belonged to a Midlands pub chain.
It was a favourite watering hole for tourists and has stunning views over the Pennines.
According to local pub history, The Star was built 985 feet above sea level in the early 1800s, fronting a new turnpike road.
In those days, it was ideally situated to cater for carriers and passenger coaches making the long haul from Austerlands or heading to Oldham.
