OUTSTANDING PUPILS from Saddleworth School were among students and teachers honoured at a special education awards ceremony in Oldham.
Students who gained the highest grades in their school, college or university were presented with prizes at The Oldham Education Awards, hosted by BBC Northwest tonight and Radio Manchester’s Kevin Fitzpatrick.
They collected a framed certificate at Eastern Pavilion Banqueting Hall in front of a packed audience of more than 300 family members, friends, teachers and community figures.
Awards were presented to Saddleworth School pupils Hannah Williams who gained 9 A* and 2 A GCSEs, a FSMQ and an AS Level, and Emma Hall, who gained 9 A* and 2 A GCSEs and a FMSQ.
A new ‘Best Teacher’ award was introduced to recognise their huge impact, presented to Sean Whitehead from Failsworth School and Ann Blything from The Blue Coat School.
Another new category, the Oldham Business Leadership Group and Norman Stoller Award for Enterprise, honoured the school that had shown the most entrepreneurial spirit and was awarded to The Oldham Academy North for their Young Enterprise Programme.
The Oldham Education Awards, now in its fourth year, is becoming a firm fixture on the borough’s calendar and is organised by One Community UK.
Fundraising throughout the event raised £495 for Dr Kershaw’s Hospice while was provided by violinist Jessica Crabtree and a dance group from Oldham Sixth Form College.
