GENEROUS STUDENTS from Saddleworth School are helping to make sure that children less fortunate around the world will get a present this Christmas…
Because the pupils filled 120 shoe boxes with gifts and toys to send across the globe as part of Operation Christmas Child run by Samaritan’s Purse.

Boxes were packed and wrapped for boys and girls in three different age categories and checked by a team of pupils before being collected by Samaritan’s Purse.
The most popular items in the boxes, which this year will be sent to places where there have been outbreaks of Ebola, included soft toys, toothbrushes and toothpaste, bars of soap and stationery.
Year 8 pupil Reece Wood, one of a team of pupils who checked the boxes, explained: “We had to take out items that weren’t allowed like any kind of weaponry or sharp objects.
“It was fun to check through them – it was a bit like Santa’s grotto! The best ones included Christmas cards and personal letters for the children receiving the gifts.”
Miss Sunderland, who helped organise the project, added: “Every form contributed and did a wonderful job.
“Last year the school sent shoe boxes to troops and this year we’ve chosen Operation Christmas Child so we can help a range of people.”
