Students support local homeless charity with Christmas donations

Homeless Friendly has visited The Brian Clarke Church of England Academy to collect Christmas donations generously given by students and their families as part of the school’s Christmas Advent Challenge.

The donated hampers were organised by Year 10 pupils, who chose this year to support homeless charities and selected Homeless Friendly as one of the causes to benefit. In recognition of the ongoing cost of living crisis and its impact on local people, families were invited to contribute in whatever way they reasonably could, without pressure to give.

Representatives from Homeless Friendly attended the academy to collect the donations, with staff and students coming together to demonstrate compassion, generosity and social responsibility during the festive season.

Mrs Coleman, Assistant Headteacher at The Brian Clarke Church of England Academy, said:

“We are incredibly proud of our students and families for the generosity and thoughtfulness they have shown through this initiative. Supporting charities like Homeless Friendly helps our young people understand the importance of community, empathy and social action, particularly at a time when many are facing real challenges.”

Homelessness remains a significant issue across England, with recent analysis estimating that around 380,000 people, including adults and children, are currently experiencing homelessness or living in temporary accommodation. Rising living costs and financial pressures have led to increasing demand for support, particularly during the winter months.

Dr Chauhan, founder of Homeless Friendly, said:

“We are extremely grateful to The Brian Clarke Church of England Academy, its staff, students and families for their kindness and support. The fact that Year 10 pupils chose to support Homeless Friendly through their donated hampers is inspiring. Donations like these make a real difference and we will ensure they are passed on to individuals and families who need them most.”

All donations collected will be distributed by Homeless Friendly to support people experiencing homelessness and hardship within the local community. The charity has thanked everyone involved at the academy for their generosity and commitment to helping others.
