SADDLEWORTH SCHOOL’S senior basketball team produced a powerful display to defeat Trinity High School, Manchester, 94-49 in the northern section of the English Schools’ Cup.
Allistair Lloyd was once again the star of the victory finishing with a personal tally of 41 points.
Having built a commanding lead in the opening quarter, Saddleworth took the opportunity to prepare for the forthcoming Greater Manchester Championships by running through their set plays and giving plenty of court time to all of the squad players.
The year nine basketball team secured their first trophy in three years with a Oldham Schools’ Cup triumph at Oldham Ball Hall.
They defeated Failsworth 14-8 in the final which capped a fantastic fightback from the boys who had lost their first group game against Waterhead.
Wins over Radclyffe, Oasis Academy, Hulme and Bluecoat then followed setting up a semi-final showdown against Waterhead as Saddleworth gained revenge for their earlier defeat with an impressive performance.
All ten lads contributed brilliantly on the afternoon but particular praise must be given to Ira Wall and Kris Hilton who were both on top form on the day.
