Success for Saddleworth WI at first meeting

THERE was standing room only at the Saddleworth WI’s first meeting at The White Hart, Lydgate, in April to listen to guest speaker Sara Rowbotham.

Sara Rowbotham with WI President Pam Armstrong

Sara spoke engagingly about her experience in exposing the Rochdale child sex abuse scandal and her dedication to the victims.

The committee commented: “It was an excellent meeting, with new members signing up to join us on the night, including many returning ones. Thanks to everyone who contributed to such a vibrant event.”

The speaker on June 5 will be Carol Talbot, local author of The Life of Annie Kenney, who will give a talk about ‘A Working Class Suffragette’, as well as sign copies of her book.

Then on Sunday, July 14 at 2pm tuck into a scrumptious Afternoon Tea with guest speaker Edwina Currie, again at the White Hart.
