Success all round for Springhead FC

SPRINGHEAD FOOTBALL Club’ has enjoyed a successful season from their under-nine’s to open age.

The under-nine’s won promotion to the first division of the East Manchester Junior League at their first attempt as they posted 40 wins and only eight losses.

The team, which is coached by Andy Hacking and Gareth Leach, made it a double with a 5-2 victory against West End Boys in their cup final.

George Barnes, Zak Wareing, Hasan Ghana and Cameron Hacking were the stand-out performers during the season.
There was also a championship for the under-10’s who won East Manchester Junior League, division one. They lost in their cup final to Ardwick Juniors.

The under-12’s, managed by Lee Hollin, Dave Donlan and Andy Brooks, finished runners-up in the premier division of the North Bury Junior League for the second successive year.

They also finished runners-up up the West Riding County Cup losing 2-0 to Lepton Highlanders in the final.

It was a great achievement to reach the final bearing in mind over 200 teams entered the competition.

Adam Webb scored over 40 goals during the season while Josh Thewliss and Jamie Smith were outstanding during the successful season.
The under-12’s are in the move to the Tameside League next season.

The under-16’s reached the final of the Tameside League, Premier Division Cup
losing to De La Salle. They finished mid table in the league.

Springhead’s open age reserve side finished third in division two of the Manchester League having gone into their final game with a shout of winning the title.

But the team, which is managed by Liam Boden, Sam Widdall and Paul Needham, won the Open Trophy beating East Manchester in the final.

Boden has now been promoted to first team coach for the forthcoming season.

Springhead, a Community Charter Standard Football Club, was founded in 1922 and has strong links to the local community.

They also run a soccer school at Waterhead Academy on a Saturday morning
(9.30am/11am) with over 60 children aged between five and eight years attending each week

All coaches have at least an FA Level 1 badge and are all CRC verified. Springhead welcome any old or new players. They are especially short of players for their girls’ teams.
