Super League star Ryan Hall heads to Saddleworth hills

IT IS probably the closest treble winning Leeds and England star, Ryan Hall, will get to Saddleworth Rangers…

fusl_logoBut while Greenfield-based Rangers are struggling to recapture former glories, the area is well and truly on the rugby league map thanks to Hall and Sky Sports cameras.

Dubbed the ‘world’s best winger’, he starred in a promo video for the 2016 First Utility Super League season, shot on the moors above the village and overlooking Dovestone and Yeoman Hey reservoirs.

Filmed in January, a Sky crew spent eight hours on the hills, using drones and an Arri Alexa camera to get their atmospheric shots.

But not all footage is of Hall, scorer of a breath-taking last second try to beat Huddersfield Giants last September and clinch the League Leaders’ Shield – the second part of the Headingley club’s historic treble.

Until he arrived on set a couple of hours into filming, the production team employed a body double for some shots. Can you spot the difference?

Leeds, who beat Wigan 22-20 in the First Utility SL Grand Final to complete a clean sweep of the domestic trophies, host NRL GF winners, North Queensland Cowboys on February 21 in the World Club Challenge final.
