Swan Inn hosts a play for charity

A KIND-HEARTED village pub had thrown open its doors to stage a play to support Ether Rantzen’s charity.

The Talking Stock theatre company will use space at The Swan Inn, Dobcross, free of charge for their performance on Sunday, February 2.

P24 swan inn play The play – Five Kinds of Silence by contemporary playwright Shelagh Stephenson – is about abusive family relationships and the profits from the tour will go to ChildLine.

The theatre company came to The Swan last year with two one-act plays and raised £1,100 for Alzheimer’s charities.

This hard-hitting drama, adapted from the radio production of the same name, received critical acclaim for  its outstanding portrayal of the twisted love of a violent man for his family and the scars of abuse that form between the women under his control.

The stage version of the play was first performed at the Lyric Hammersmith, London, in 2000.

The play won the 1996 UK Writers Guild’s Best Original Play award and the 1997 Sony Award for Best Original Drama. Shelagh Stepehnson is one of Britain’s most acclaimed contemporary playwrights.

Tickets, costing £10, are on sale now from The Swan in Dobcross or online: www.wegottickets.com/Dobcross
