TWO POPULAR Dobcross landlords are raising their glasses after being crowned Marston’s Pub of the Year and Newcomer of the Year – just more than 12 months after taking over.
Michael Powis and Tim Newbold at The Swnn Inn clinched Newcomer of the Year in the North last month – but saw off competition from three other areas to scoop the national title in the finals.
And the pub rounded off its success by taking home the highest accolade – Marston’s Pub of the Year 2013 – after outperforming hundreds of other pubs across England and Wales.
Michael said: “We were delighted to win the regional final but taking the national titles was a wonderful surprise.
“It’s testament to all the hard work we put in as a team to give customers a reason to trial the pub and return to it. With recognition like this from Marston’s, the future looks very bright for the Swan Inn.”
Michael and partner Tim received their awards at a glittering ceremony at the Hotel du Vin in Birmingham, and were presented with certificates and a plaque.
Since taking over in March 2012, the duo have become popular figures in the area after opening up their function room for theatre productions, village meetings, comedy nights and more.
