DOBCROSS TURNED back the clock in style with a lively, fun-filled Vintage Weekend.
Festivities began with an ‘All Our Yesterdays’ Coffee Morning hosted by the Elderberries at Holy Trinity Church, with villagers encouraged to dig out photos from times gone by.
Then in the evening, the Dobcross Band Club was packed out for a ‘Vintage Concert’ which included entertainment from Dobcross Brass Monkeys and vocalist Ian Strachan.
And locals took to their feet to dance the night away to a selection of vintage dance music from Big Jim’s Disco.
Then on Sunday, the Band Club was buzzing once more for a ‘Vintage Fete’ as visitors enjoyed crown green bowling in the sun and listened to Dobcross Silver Band perform.
A host of stalls made it a real old-fashioned affair, including Angela and James Kenny selling plants and reclamation homeware items while Martin Powell showed off his chair caning skills.
And visitors tucked into a delicious Afternoon Tea served by the Coffee Shop volunteers, including sandwiches, scones, cakes and drinks, before enjoying an ‘All Our Yesterdays’ photo show.
The Vintage Weekend was organised by the Dobcross Village Community Association, replacing their usual Yanks Weekend celebrations.
Committee member Pam Rose said: “It’s been a wonderful weekend, bringing together everyone with the music, vintage stalls, activities and Afternoon tea.
“It’s the first time we have done it like this and it’s been really busy so I am pleased everyone seems to have enjoyed it.”
Villagers can enjoy more 1940s fun at a Vintage Dance on Saturday, August 9 with Katz-Korner and The Singing Solider at Dobcross Band Club. The event starts at 7.30pm and tickets cost £10 from the Band Club.
Then on Saturday, September 6 a new style Italian Evening will be hosted at the club with Victor Michael singing light opera, followed by Italian Music from Big Jim.
Complimentary Italian cocktail and antipasti will be served. Tickets cost £15 and must be booked in advance by ringing Jenny on 07594 276003.
