MR Bump and friends will be leading the line as a new Winter Bimble in the Park charity fun run comes to Oldham.
The event is being held for the first time at Alexandra Park on Sunday, December 9, with all proceeds going to Children with Cancer UK.
Runners of all ages and abilities are welcome to enter, and participants are encouraged to wear fancy dress costumes.
James Wright, the mastermind behind the event, explained: “I wanted to put on a seasonal event, something a bit different, that everyone could take part in to raise money for charity and have a laugh.
“There is no pressure on anyone to finish in a record time. If people want to come down and walk around, that’s fine – hence a bimble, which is a relaxed run.”
The day, which is being organised with the help of Muir’s Miles Events, begins at 10am with a one-mile fun run for up to 150 children, starting at the lion’s den. That will be followed by a five-mile race for up to 400 adults, setting off at 11am.
Marshals will be on hand around the course and every finisher will receive a medal and a goody bag. There will be prizes for the winners.
There will be also other prizes on the day, along with a raffle and cake sale to raise further funds.
James, who is a member of Royton Road Runners and Up and Running Tuesday Social Running Group and a regular at Chadderton Hall Parkrun, will be wearing the charity’s official Mr Bump costume on the day.
The outfit is now a familiar sight as James has donned it to complete numerous races, including last year’s London Marathon, the Great North Run 2018 and the Manchester Half Marathon this October.
Inspirational local names signed up to join him in the Winter Bimble include Dawn Nisbet, whose photo went viral as she celebrated crossing the finish line of a Parkrun.
They will be joined by stalwart fundraiser Steve Hill, who has completed the gruelling Arctic Ice Marathon for charity, wearing a Pikachu costume as he takes on his latest challenge.
The event is being sponsored by MPeople recruitment, along with support from Up and Running Oldham, Tesco’s Chadderton and other local branches, Costco, Morrisons, Lyndan Sports Therapy, Bigbull Digital Printing, UAP Limited, Ree Ming, Golden Bowl, and @Oldham_Hour and @McrRun.
See the course maps or book to enter (£7.50 for adults and £3 for children + small booking fee) online: www.muirs-miles.co.uk or find them on Facebook.
As places are limited, please enter as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. There are already people signed up from far and wide as individuals or with running clubs such as G.L.O.A.T.U.Rs, an ultra marathon running community.
James is also looking for volunteers to help on the day, as well as donations of raffle prizes or cakes.
And is he inviting businesses to back the event by making a donation for the charity in exchange for promotional items in the goody bags, or purchasing items for the event.
