PLAYERS OF all ages took to the courts for the inaugural Mick Hoskyn Memorial Tennis Competition.
Sixteen male players, whose ages ranged from early teens to mid-sixties, competed in doubles at Tame Valley Tennis and Squash Club for the silver tankard which was flowing with beer.
Play commenced at 7pm and, after four hard fought rounds each consisting of seven games, the victors were Mike Lightfoot and Harry Littlewood.
They were presented with the tankard by three of Mick Hoskyn’s daughters, Jenny, Alexandra and Elizabeth, but fourth daughter Abigail missed the occasion as she was in Sydney, Australia.
Mick was a member of the club for many years and was also a keen footballer who played and managed the third team of AFC Oldham until his death in 2006.
In keeping with his memory, the bar did a roaring trade all night and many of his friends came to watch.
Mick’s widow Louise summed the evening up by saying: “It’s been a fantastic night. Thanks to club members who organised the evening. Mick would have loved it!”
