READY: Kim, David and Karen on a training hike up Kinder Scout

Barbara Broomhead died in January 2014 from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), for which there is currently no cure.

Now, son David and daughter Tracy are taking on the tough challenge to raise funds for the British Lung Foundation to help with research and support the charity.

They will be joined by Barbara’s daughter-in-law Karen and friends Kim and Helen for the challenge on Sunday, August 28.

Walkers have to cover 24.5 miles across the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in under 12 hours.

The team has prepared by doing training hikes – although Kim got lost on the last one at Ladybower when her sat nav took her to the wrong meeting place but she carried on anyway!

Kind donations and sponsorship means they have raised nearly £800 already for the charity but they appreciate any more support people are able to give.
