A BUDDING teenage photographer has won an arts charity competition with his stunning shot of a BMXer in mid-air at a track near Saddleworth Golf Club.

Seventeen year-old Adam Gray, from Fitton Hill, secured the most ‘likes’ and shares on Facebook for his image so was named winner of The Bike Adventures Oldham campaign.

The competition, run by Peshkar on behalf of Oldham Council, aimed to encourage young people to cycle and was funded through EU sponsored scheme the Mobisec Project.

Adam’s prize is a Go-Pro Action camera and the keen snapper said he plans to use the Go-Pro Action camera to further his creative pursuits.

Adam was first inspired to take pictures when his dad got a Canon DSLR 1000D three years ago and now runs his own small photography business.

“I’ll be using the Go-Pro as soon as I can and hopefully be able to submit more images about cycling in Oldham,” he said.

“This has been a brilliant youth-focused campaign and a great idea to encourage people to submit their content.

“I’ve really enjoyed seeing the amazing images that have been posted by others and found it very inspiring for my own work.”

The competition hit a stunning milestone earlier this month when one of the posts on the campaign’s Facebook page reached over 10,000 young people.

Adam added: “It’s been a lot of fun and I’d definitely love to be involved in any future plans for running it again.”

Councillor Jenny Harrison, Oldham Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Public Health said, “We’re really impressed with the level of involvement from young people in this campaign and congratulate Adam on his stunning image capturing the spirit of cycling.

“Peshkar have developed a wonderful campaign by involving young people from the outset and all the way through to the end.

“This is a terrific opportunity to build on this campaign and involve more young people in issues that matter most to them, which is great for local democracy and community participation.”
