Temporary signals in operation in Uppermill during sewer utility works

TEMPORARY SIGNALS are in place as United Utilities engineers carry out repairs to a sewer to a duck pond at Church Road, Uppermill from Tuesday, April 14.

The signals will be in operation at the junction of Pickhill Lane for the duration of the work, which is estimated to take several days.

But the company stressed the work is not linked to a major sewer replacement which closed the road for months last year.

A UU spokesperson said: “The current problem was caused by a blockage on the small sewer that runs down the footpath on the edge of the duck pond opposite Pickhill Lane.

“We’ve cleared the blockage but we need to do some repair work on the sewer to prevent a recurrence or pollution to the pond.

“The place where we need to repair the pipe is just before it joins the main sewer in Church Road, so we’ll need to dig in Church Road.”

She added: “This is not the same sewer as the one we enlarged a year ago. It is routine repair work and we are not proposing a road closure.”

Local residents have been informed by United Utilities and parking has been suspended in the vicinity of the signals.
