THE TENNIS section at Saddleworth Cricket Bowling and Tennis Club is to reintroduce coaching at the club.
The programme will be directed by Sean Stafford who is a Level 4 SPC LTA accredited coach.
Sean who is currently Marsden Tennis Club’s head coach, will run the coaching sessions at Well-I-Hole, Friezland, every Wednesday starting April 30 at the following times:
* 4.15pm: Tots (3/5 yrs)
* 5pm-6pm: Mini tennis (6/10 yrs)
* 6pm-7pm: Juniors (11/16 yrs)
* 7pm-8pm: Adults (17yrs and over)
The club and Sean are running an open day on Sunday, April 27 (noon to 3pm) when all ages and abilities from complete starters to more experienced players will be encouraged to participate in mini tennis, tennis and cardio tennis tasters for adults.
There will be other games and competitions such as ‘Beat the Coach’ along with a barbeque and refreshments.
The tennis section of the club was formed in 1886 at Friezland and it currently has three teams in the Oldham and District Tennis League, one team in the Manchester and District Mens League and two teams in the Manchester and District Mixed Leagues.
The first team is current holders of the Oldham Tennis League Subsidiary Cup for first division teams.
These new initiatives are to expand the participation and future success of tennis at Saddleworth Cricket Bowling and Tennis Club and in support of the proposed application for grant funding for the replacement of the current playing surface.
