MAHDLO YOUTH Zone celebrated its fifth birthday in style thanks to a donation of £2,500 worth of refreshments and prizes by Tesco.
Tesco, which has stores on Huddersfield Road, Featherstall Road North and Ashton Road West, made the donation to Mahdlo for their week-long celebrations.
Activities included a talent show parties, and concluded with Mahdlo Team and Star Awards, where volunteers and members celebrated successes and achievements over the past year.
Andrew Brown, manager at the Tesco Huddersfield Road Extra, said: “The stores in Oldham have been working closely with Mahdlo over the past couple of months and we wanted to do something special for the team on the anniversary.
“Our team worked with the teams at the Chadderton, Failsworth and Greenfield stores to pull together the refreshments and prizes which were used throughout the week’s celebrations.”
Andrew continued: “Mahdlo is a vital part of the Oldham community and provides services for young people in the area, we can’t thank them enough for all their hard work.
“On behalf of Tesco we’d like to congratulate the winners from this weekend’s awards and also thank them for all that they do.”
Claire Crossfield, development manager for Mahdlo Youth Zone, said: “We had such a great week of festivities to celebrate five years of hard work and as a charity we are very grateful for the support of Tesco.
“The Mahdlo Team and Star Awards help us to recognise the hard work of our volunteers and celebrate the successes of our Youth Zone members over the past year.”
Mahdlo Youth Zone, on Egerton Street in Oldham, opened in 2012 and currently has over 4,800 members aged 8-21 years old. Membership is just £5 per year and entry 50p per session.
