Some people toast memories with drinks and flowers … but diners at ancient country inn stepped back in time when they shared a unique memorial feast with a pub landlord.

Because the team celebrating Tommy Harrop Night at The Old Original, Scouthead, wore flat caps, mufflers and in some cases waistcoats.
It was all part of Tom’s wish to remember his father and he and his son Richard (pictured), decided to dress the part.
Tom senior, who was 67 when he died, was associated with the local brass band movement for more than 40 years.
Landlord Tom, a father of two, said: “I decided to dedicate the night to my dad because he was a famous in brass band circles and a true Lancashire man – and proud of it.
“We may be in the historic county of York but we have been forgotten by Lancashire.”
Guests sampled the belt-busting menu which included pea and ham soup, black pudding with mustard sauce, Lancashire hot-pot, beef rag pudding, Mossley recipe potato pie, apple crumble and ice cream.

What a lovely gesture and a way to bring trade to the pub, so many are closing nowadays, I was shocked when I came back to the UK for a visit.
