A DEVOTED mother from Lydgate is inviting locals to party in style at a Beetles celebration band evening to raise funds in memory of her son.
Since then, his campaigning mother Jenny has raised more than £25,000 in his memory, which has been donated towards research at The Christie.
Now she is organising a bash on Thursday, May 14 to mark what would have been Gareth’s 40th birthday as well as raise even more funds.
Guests at the themed event at the White Hart will be transported back to the 1960s as The Threetles – a Beetles celebration band – take the stage.
There will also be a prize for best dressed and a raffle. No food will be available but the bar will be open.
Jenny said: “Gareth’s twin brother Philip and I wanted to do something that was fun and a bit different as Gareth loved life so much.
“Paul, from The Threetles, is really supportive and really keen to get involved and it will be a great night.”
She continued: “When Gareth developed malignant melanoma the only cure was surgery and if that didn’t work there was no other treatment.
“Now there are drugs which slow down the cancer and many people have been treated successfully. The money raised has definitely made a difference and saved lives.
“It is so important to stay safe in the sun. Apply at least Factor 15 even when it is overcast and it is crucial to see your GP asap if you have a mole that changes in any way.”
Jenny’s next event will be an annual Afternoon Tea, also at the White Hart, on Sunday, June 28 – more details to follow soon.
Tickets for The Threetles evening cost £10 each, with tables available for up to ten. 8pm for 8.30pm start on Thursday, May 14 at The White Hart at Lydgate.
Tickets from Jenny (01457 877935), Paul (07522 351105) or The White Hart (01457 872566).
