The Yanks are back in Saddleworth with annual extravaganza

WIND BACK the clock with wartime fashion, fun and vehicles at an unforgettable Yanks Weekend on August 8 and 9.

The popular annual Yanks Are Back In Svictory swing ball 2015 (3).2 addleworth event is returning for a 16th year to celebrate the filming of 1979 Hollywood movie ‘Yanks’ starring Richard Gere with some scenes shot in Dobcross and Uppermill.

Now, WW2Events.co.uk once again will present an unforgettable day out and fantastic experience as the ‘Yanks’ set up camp at Saddleworth School in Uppermill over the two days.

Just like the movie set, living history reenactors and vintage military and classic vehicles owners will recreate an atmosphere of Wartime Britain.

There will also be wartime entertainment, a assault course, period stalls, an engine display, a 1940’s Tea Room and much more for the whole family to enjoy.

Musical entertainment will be provided by ‘Homefront Entertainments’ with Maria Manchester, Jane Francis, Lilli Moore and Perfect Vintage.

Don’t miss a WarTime tea dance with the Backstep Boogie Club at Uppermill Civic Hall on Saturday, August 8 from 11am – 4pm, entrance £3, as well as a Wartime Cinema.

And the popular Victory Swing Ball will raise the roof at the Civic Hall on Saturday evening from 7.30pm

tea dance posterTopping the bill is Sticky Wicket and his swing orchestra along with Trina plus FREE dance lessons by the Backstep Boogie Club. Tickets £18 in advance including Hot Wartime Supper from Ian 07815 300547.

On Sunday, the Mayor of Oldham will host a coffee morning with the Normandy Veterans at Betty’s Fish and Chip Shop on Uppermill High Street.

Then the streets will be lined for the Military Parade and Convoy at 12noon starting in Uppermill and travelling on through the surrounding areas until 2pm.

A BBMF Dakota flypast has been applied for and details will be announced as soon as possible.

Admission to the events at Saddleworth School costs £5 for adults and £3 for children under 16. A family ticket is available at £12 (2 adults and 2 children). Veterans and card-carrying members of Re-enactor groups free.

Please note: No black (SD) Allgemeine SS uniforms with red armband. Re-Enactors with Waffen SS combat uniforms are welcome as long as SS insignia is not displayed.
