Top Hungarian youth choir on special visit to Saddleworth

MUSIC lovers can enjoy a unique concert as a 46-girl Hungarian youth choir is set to raise the roof this month in Uppermill.

The Miraculum Children’s Choir

The Miraculum Children’s Choir, from the Zoltán Kodály Music School, is visiting England for a musical tour with their conductor László Durányik.

It is the ninth visit to England for the award-winning choir, which is made up of 14 to 16 year olds, but their first time in Saddleworth.

Half the girls are being hosted by pupils from Saddleworth School and their families, while the others will stay at the Boarshurst Centre in Greenfield, courtesy of Saddleworth Rotary Club.

And they will be making the most of their two days here as they have a series of events planned.

On Wednesday, June 27 they are visiting Oldham Sixth Form College to perform to local primary schools from 1.30pm.

Then on the evening of Wednesday, June 27 they are giving a concert at St Chads Church in Uppermill, starting at 7pm. Tickets cost £5 (cash only) and are available from Saddleworth School reception.

And then on Thursday, June 28 they are performing in local primary schools across Saddleworth which are part of the Dovestone Learning Partnership.

All the events are in conjunction with the first-ever Oldham Festival of Learning which is being hosted across the borough from Monday, June 25 until Friday, July 6 and will include talks, keynote speeches, workshops, demonstrations, training events, exhibitions and seminars.

The choir was founded in 1996 and soon became one of the top children’s choirs in Hungary. 

They have a large repertoire of sacred and secular music. 

They won first prize at the Wroclaw 4th Vratislavia Sacra International Choir Festival in 2014 and in 2016 won first prize for the fifth time at the Neerpelt European Music Festival for young people. 

They have also clinched first prize in the Budapest International Choir Competition on several occasions. 

During this UK trip, they will also visit London, Rugby, Somerset, Barnsley and Coventry, twin town of Kecskemét. Find out more online:
