TWO SADDLEWORTH School students received awards for their outstanding effort and academic achievement at the Oldham Excellence Awards 2013.

Alexander Dobson and Olivia Bescoby were honoured at a special ceremony, hosted by One Community UK, at the Taj Palace venue in Oldham in front of 350 guests.
The pair were among around 30 young scholars to receive awards, which werepresented to the boy and girl who attained the best GCSEs, A Levels and degrees from each school, academy, college and university in the borough.
Speaking at the event, Mayor of Oldham, Councillor John Hudson, congratulated the pupils and highlighted the importance of education.
And Professor Gai Murphy, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of University of Salford whosponsored the event, praised the ‘pool of talent’ and encouraged students to work inthe region and put it at the forefront of the country’s successes.

Mr Amin Babor Chowdhury, One Community UK chairman, said: “Now, more than ever, One Community is proud to shine a light on these pupils for their exceptional hard work and achievement.”
Dance students from Oldham College provided entertainment while a raffle and Manchester-Oldham themed auction concluded the event to raise funds in support of cancer treatment in Bangladesh.
The Oldham Excellence Awards, now in its second year, was established by One Community UK to celebrate students, inspire others and unite the community.
