TWO OUTSTANDING pupils from Saddleworth School were honoured at a special prize-giving ceremony for their remarkable GCSE results.

Gabriella Anderson and Catherine Chapman – who gained the highest grades in their school – received their framed certificates from BBC Radio Manchester¹s Kevin Fitzpatrick at The Oldham Education Awards.
Gabriella achieved 11 A*s, 2 As, and a D2 in BTEC Sport in her exams while Catherine achieved 11 A*s, 1 B and a D2 in BTEC Sport.
In total 40 students collected certificates for their achievements on stage at the Eastern Pavilion Banqueting Hall in front of an audience of family, friends, councillors, teachers and principals.
They are the most successful students from fifteen schools, colleges or universities across the borough.
Oldham Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Safeguarding Councillor Amanda Chadderton congratulated the winners, adding that educational results in Oldham this year showed improvement ahead of the national average.

The event was also attended by Greater Manchester Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd, Head of School Performance at Oldham Council David Barter, and Dr Basma Ellahi from the University of Chester.
The Oldham Education Awards, now in its third year, is organised by One Community UK, bringing people together to recognise and honour those who will lead the town and country in the years ahead.
The evening raised £591 for charity partner Dr Kershaw¹s Hospice in Oldham and was supported by local businesses including The Oldham Academy North, the Stoller Charitable Trust, Probash Bangla and Oldham Council.
