Track down comic book and cartoon film characters on Scarecrow Trail

LOCALS AND visitors can track down a host of comic book and cartoon film characters during the Delph Donkey Scarecrow Trail 2014.

Old Bell Scarecrow
SCARECROW: The Old Bell’s Captain Jack Sparrow was favourite last year

Running from Friday, May 23 to Sunday, June 15, the trail includes 22 scarecrows throughout the village centre, with some near Delph crossroads and others down Pingle Lane.

Four lucky hunters who identify the most scarecrows will win prizes – a £50 voucher for The Old Bell Inn restaurant, two tickets to Saddleworth Players 2014/15 season, plus a gift voucher and basket of beauty products from Shear Perfection.

Tantalising questions include ‘Who’s shopping at Delph Co-op?’ and ‘Who’s having their hair cut at Millgate Hair Studios and Shear Perfection?’

Trail booklets with clues (£1.50) are available from Delph Post Office, Delph Co-op, Saddleworth Crafts, Delph Library and Saddleworth Museum Uppermill.

This annual event is organised by the Delph Community Association and all money raised will go to supporting the Gartside Street Car Park appeal.

Last year’s trail raised around £400 for village improvements as locals hunted down heroes and villains, including Captain Jack Sparrow and Cruella D’Vil, across the Delph countryside.

Trailblazers named their favourite scarecrow as Captain Jack Sparrow of the Old Bell Inn, securing the four-star accredited establishment’s victory for the second year running.

Second favourite was Sponge Bob Square Pants and equal third were Emily Wilding Davison and Cruella D’Vil.
