The Waggon Inn on the High Street has been transformed thanks to major investment from Robinsons brewery to restyle both the interior and exterior.

Working with the brewery’s award winning design team, tenants Matthew John and Chantelle Tupman-John ensured no space was left untouched during the programme.

Walls have been removed to create a welcoming, open space, with a traditional feel maintained throughout with log burners, old beams, timber flooring and stone cladding.

Bric-a-brac furnishings were carefully chosen to create talking points, including locally sourced pictures, glass lanterns and an assortment of fabric wrapped antique deer heads.

New bathroom facilities and a larger kitchen have been installed and there is now universal access and a garden room for both inside and outside dining.

Guests were invited to see the transformation for themselves at the grand opening when they were treated to Montelivini Asolo, canapés and entertainment from singer Marcus Best and talented fire breather Circus Jim.

The revamped interior

Chantelle, who took over in May 2013 with Matthew, said: “We’ve received high praise since changing our food menu but found customers thought that the pub’s interior didn’t reflect our high quality.

“We wanted to shake things up and bring the pub into the 21st century to create a more welcoming atmosphere.

“We can’t thank the team at Robinsons enough. The feedback so far has been very positive and the support we’ve received from everyone at the brewery has been fantastic.

“It’s given us a great foundation to build our future. From myself, Matthew and the team, we would like to invite everyone to experience this next chapter of The Waggon Inn with us.”

A brand new menu, developed by patron chef Matt is a celebration of fresh local produce with homemade dishes ranging from authentic Asian flavours to traditional pub classics.

And a new bar counter houses the pub’s four hand-pulls, serving a rotating range of Robinsons award-winning cask ales alongside a specially created The Waggon Inn Ale to mark the reopening.

Guests relax in the luxurious setting

Matthew added: “When we took over we developed a menu focused on the brasserie style of cuisine but found the existing kitchen was unable to cope with the demand and popularity.

“With the new bigger kitchen, we can now create more dynamic and exciting dishes. We have big plans in 2015 including tasting menu evenings and an a la carte offering.”

Wayne Roach, Business Development Manager for Robinsons, said: “Matthew and Chantelle are a perfect example of the high calibre tenants we are always looking for.

“They think outside the box and come up with fresh ideas that will ensure that The Waggon Inn continues to be a popular pub for many years to come.”

The Waggon Inn is now open, serving food and award-winning Robinsons cask ales daily.
