OLDHAM COUNCIL is working on a plan to help ease parking problems at the start of major sewage works in Uppermill.
Church Road is the focus of the one million pound operation which will mean road closures and diversions from June 2 until the end of August.
But after a well-attended public exhibition, residents requested relaxing car park restrictions in Uppermill to allow them parking so they can walk to and from home, avoiding the diversion route.
Now Oldham’s Parking Services say residents will be able to use all car parks in Uppermill between 4pm and 10am the following day, unrestricted, during the works.
However, this will be on a first come first served basis as the car parks will have to remain open for general use to serve the village.
The council is also examining carriageway improvement works on the diversion routes to fill pot holes and widen passing places.
They plan to hold a meeting with their Highways department and United Utilities to discuss the results of a road condition survey.
