Save our Streets

IN THE past few weeks, I have noticed smashed bus stops on numerous occassions in Greenfield and on Oldham Road. Why on earth do careless people take pleasure in smashing up our community?
Not only are they putting themselves and others in danger of getting hurt on the broken glass but they are also taking away the use of the facilities, which so many people use each day.
It’s never nice to have to stand waiting for a bus but it is even worse if there is no shelter from the wind and rain.
I wish people would pause for a moment and consider the consequences before they carry out such acts of stupidity.

THIS GLORIOUS picture captures the delightful colours of spring along the moorings of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal in Uppermill.

It was taken on a bright, sunny day by Saddleworth Independent reader Cyril Fogg.

Meanwhile, a rare daytime sight of a tawny owl was captured by reader Michael Fox this month.

He explained: “Despite being taken in the middle of the afternoon it shows a tawny owl. There were two owls, the second being a few feet away, but it wasn’t possible to get them both in the frame.

“The location is the unlikely one of a garden wall on Clough Lane in Grasscroft.

“About a foot or so in height, they were like miniature statues, being almost completely still. The only movement I saw them make was sleepily to blink their eyes. They were so still that at first I suspected I was the victim of a practical joke, and that the birds were cuddly toys!

“In all the years I’ve been walking round Saddleworth I’ve never seen anything quite like this!”
