VISITORS ARE invited to go batty at a fun and informative evening all about bats at the Standedge Tunnel and Visitor Centre.

The Canal & River Trust is welcoming the return of West Yorkshire Bat Group to the centre for the fifth year running on September Friday 11 and Saturday 12 September.

Attendees will be able to experience the nocturnal mammals from 7pm with a detailed talk and presentation from local expert Glenn Wilkinson.

This will be followed by an evening walk searching and listening for bats around the historical site of Tunnel End and Eastergate.

Claire Atkinson, duty manager Standedge Tunnel & Visitor Centre, said: “Our annual Mad About Bats evening has grown in popularity year-on-year which is why we’ve decided to hold two evenings this year.

“Using the bat detectors to listen to these interesting creatures just adds to the fun as without them we’re unable to hear their sonar which they use to navigate.”

Refreshments will be available in the Thomas Bourne room before and during the presentation.

Admission to the event is £5 for adults and £3 for children, booking is essential as places are limited. For more information and to book contact the visitor centre on 01484 844298 or visit the website.
