Volunteers dedicated to keeping Greenfield tidy

DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS from Street Scene Greenfield Group are celebrating after completing new fencing from Hall’s Lock to Uppermill.

The surface of the turning area has been levelled and it will finally be finished with a new rail professionally etched with appropriate wording.

Steph Pelmore, from SSGG, said: “The tow path is massively improved and a pleasure for those who walk along the beautiful Greenfield stretch.”

In early May, the Group received a call from Canal and River Trust’s Press Officer wanting to hold a live interview to promote their Canal Adoption Scheme.

SSGG co-ordinator Peter Lowe rose to the task and proved a great success, with snippets from the interview repeated throughout the day.

Forthcoming working party dates are June 24, July 4 and July 22. Each session lasts about 2 hours and all are welcome.

If you’ve not volunteered before and would like to be included in the mailing list for further details, contact the Project Leader, Gill McCulley: call 07963 521195 or email: gillmcculley@yahoo.com.

Meanwhile, SSGG is holding their next community Litter Pick on Saturday, June 10 from 10am to 12noon.

Volunteers meet at the junction of Croft Edge and Greenbridge Lane and If you cannot stay for the full two hours, join in for as long as you can.

All equipment is provided. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and will receive a certificate. Refreshments provided for everyone afterwards.
