A CRY has gone out for enthusiastic volunteers to get involved and help to keep a popular free community event alive in Scouthead.
Each year, the Family Fun Day at Dawson’s Field attracts around 1,000 people to enjoy stalls, games, arts and crafts, live entertainment, refreshments and more.
But after funding was withdrawn for this year’s event on July 27 due to cuts for the Saddleworth and Lees District Partnership, help is needed to ensure the day can go ahead.
Joan Sykes, chair of the Scouthead and Austerlands Community Group which organises the day, is looking for volunteers to lend a hand on the day as well as any donations of help.
She explained: “Cuts have impacted on Christine Wilson’s team at the District Partnership so funding has been withdrawn and now we’re funding it ourselves.
“We are looking for people to make donations for the tombola or raffle prizes, and anything else they can.
“Last year we had around 1,400 people throughout the day so it’s a popular event and we want to make sure we can put it on for free once more this year.”
