Volunteers wanted to help clean up Greenfield Cricket Club after floods and break-in

GREENFIELD Cricket Club has suffered a double blow in readiness for life in the newly created Pennine League.

The Ladhill Lane outfit, situated on the banks of Chew Brook, was badly hit by the Boxing Day floods before thieves struck for a second time in a couple of months.

Chairman Richard Hepworth was reluctant to discuss details of the latest break-in but the event has been confirmed by Saddleworth police. It is believed a television was among items taken.

But the club is now looking for volunteers on Sunday, January 10 to help in a clean-up operation.

A post on the club’s Facebook site says: “10.30 am onwards – volunteers needed please for a couple of hours cleaning up.

“Lots of litter and debris to clean up outside after the recent bad weather and also inside after the recent break in.”
