MOUNTAIN rescue volunteers were called to Dove Stone Reservoir for the second time in a week after a walker became unwell near Ashway Memorial Cross.
Oldham Mountain Rescue Team (OMRT) was contacted by Greater Manchester Police shortly after 2pm on Tuesday, October 20, following concerns for the walker’s welfare.

Using SARLOC phone-location technology, rescuers were able to pinpoint the casualty’s position near the memorial cross, allowing volunteers to reach them quickly.
A team medic assessed the walker at the scene and provided additional warm clothing before they were carefully escorted on foot down to the team’s waiting control vehicle.
Further checks were carried out before the casualty was driven back to their car in the reservoir car park.
The operation lasted approximately two hours and involved 12 mountain rescue volunteers.

Following the callout, OMRT renewed its appeal for donations towards replacing its ageing Land Rover vehicles, which are essential for reaching remote locations across the moors.
The volunteer-run charity relies on specialist vehicles to transport rescuers and equipment into areas that ordinary vehicles cannot access.
