PEOPLE in Saddleworth have been alerted by police to doorstep sellers in the area.
Greater Manchester Police has raised the issue of people from a group called Stepping Stones which is based in the Blackburn, Lancashire, area.
Officers contacted the organisation this morning but they denied any knowledge of the scheme they say they are on.
A GMP spokesman said: “As your local Police team we are not dictating who to buy items from at your door but we do feel strongly that we need to point out the following.
“There are NO selling schemes nationwide that assists offenders in this way. It’s a scam that goes back decades.
“All that’s happened today is that a softer story is being used and someone on Huddersfield Road has just posted up saying that they had “been had” buying a duster for £10 It’s very difficult to say no once the bags on the floor and the zips open.
“If you do not want to buy goods in this way just be firm and friendly and say no Thank you. Any issues with these individuals should be rung through immediately on 101 for general info or 999 if they are threatening etc.”
The police advice is, ‘Eyes peeled and please share. #SaddleworthCommunityPa
