Weighing up a healthy start to 2014?

ADULTS IN Saddleworth are encouraged to kick start a healthy New Year by getting involved in free and effective NHS weight management programmes.

Oldham’s ‘Why Weight’ and ‘Lose Your Spare Tyre’ programmes are back for 2014, delivered by Oldham’s Health and Wellbeing Service, which is part of Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust.

The eight-week ‘Why Weight’ programme is aimed at people who are above their ideal weight and begins on January 13 at various locations.

Through attending regular sessions and a weekly weigh-in, people will learn how to lose weight and keep it off, with guidance around healthy recipes, portion sizes and being more active.

Running alongside this is the ten-week ‘Lose Your Spare Tyre’ programme, tailored specifically for men and incorporating a variety of sports and fitness activities, along with a nutrition advice session with a qualified expert.

A programme will begin on January 23 and sessions will be held on Thursdays from 5.30pm to 7.30pm at Oldham Sports Centre.

Kerry Clarke, Why Weight Co-ordinator for Pennine Care, said:  “Our free weight management programmes aim to give people the very best chance of successful weight loss, by offering them essential knowledge, guidance and support.  We’ve already helped many people lose weight and the feedback we have received is very positive.

“We want to ensure that everyone can access these effective weight management programmes, so we’re offering sessions across the area and at various times.

“We’re looking forward to supporting people to achieve their weight loss goals and make healthy improvements to their lives.”
