Karen Thompson, a multi-award winning Weight Watchers Leader, brings you some advice on how to take aim and fire with a healthy diet this year
IF YOUR New Year’s resolution was to lose weight, eat more healthily and get more active some of you will already be 5% lighter than when you started.
This is a real significant milestone as the health benefits start to show. However, some of you may already feel your motivation isn’t quite as strong as it was so try to remember why it was important in the first place, then remember a week when you felt really in control and successful.
This will give you the confidence in yourself to try again. Importance and confidence lead to motivation.
Next it’s time to take aim – setting yourself small, achievable goals so you see success regularly boosts your confidence.
These goals don’t have to be weight-related goals – maybe you want to have breakfast everyday this week, speed up your activity or cook more healthy meals.
Specific goals help us focus our energies on the future and making just one small change each week will help you reach that goal.
So February is the month of love and some of you more romantics may celebrate Valentine’s Day. If you’re eating out remember to plan ahead for it.
My members know that with careful planning and choosing wisely they can enjoy a meal out – whether it be a celebration or just a regular weekly event – and still get a great weight loss.
Losing weight does not have to mean putting your lifestyle on hold – it’s about making better choices but still having some treats along the way. So what are you waiting for, take aim & fire, you can achieve your dreams.
For those planning a romantic meal in, try our Chocolate Sponge Pudding as a delicious dessert.
Chocolate Sponge Pudding
(4 Pro Points per serving for you weight watchers full counting)
Use a tiny amount of low fat spread to grease six castle pudding moulds or ramekins.
Put 40grms low fat spread into a mixing bowl with 40grms light muscovado sugar, 75grms self raising flour, 1 tbsp cocoa powder, 1tbsp skimmed milk & half a tsp vanilla extract.
Add 1 egg & beat with a wooden spoon for 1 minute until all the ingredients are combined. Share the mixture between the 6 moulds and place a piece of greaseproof paper on each wrapping tightly around.
Stand them in a large lidded saucepan with enough boiling water to come a third of the way up. Cover and steam over a low heat for 25 mins. (Check the water levels from time to time.
Run a knife around the moulds and invert to release them and then serve with a tbsp of half fat crème fraiche, a sliced strawberry & a dusting of cocoa powder)
This recipe serves six but can be frozen. Enjoy!
