DENSHAW’s VILLAGE cinema has big plans for its small screen with a galaxy of stimulating films.
The Great Gatsby, stars Leonardo Di Caprio and Isla Fisher in Baz Luhrmann’s glittering adaptation of F Scott Fitzgerald’s classic drama on Saturday, November 9.
Summer in February focuses on the bohemian Lamorna group, telling a tale of love and heartbreak in the shadow of The Great War on November 16.
And on November 30, science fiction film Cloud Atlas sees six tales in the past, present and future collide as individuals impact on one another’s lives as they cross timelines. Showings at 4.30pm and 7.30pm.
December starts with From Here to Eternity on Saturday 7, a 60th anniversary reissue of the film which captured viewers with frolicking in the surf, Frank Sinatra’s performance as a useless wide boy and the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour.
Promised Land sees hard edged corporate salesman Matt Damon take on a small community to drill oil under their land on December 14.
And on December 28, comedy Populaire from 1958, in French with English subtitles, offers wit, humour and passion as village girl Rose escapes her quiet life to take on the world as a secretary – and must win speed trying competitions to impress her new boss.

A NIGHT of entertainment will be held on Friday, November 15 to raise funds for Help for Homeless Veterans.
Hosted by local musician Martin Stimson, ‘An Evening with Buzz Hawkins, Stanley Accrington and Eliza P’ will start at 8pm at the Royal George in Greenfield (doors 7.30pm).

Martin recently released a song ‘The Blue Ribbon’ to raise funds for the charity after finding a ribbon and balloon fragment on Alphin Pike released in Newcastle for a fallen solider.
THE ANNUAL Saddleworth Ladies Lifeboat Guild lunch raised £3,200 towards their target of £15,000 for 2013 with three events still to come.
They are staging coffee mornings at Uppermill Methodist on October 30 and at Delph Methodist on November 16.
And the guild’s popular annual Quiz night is on November 22 at Greenfield Conservative Club.

AN ANTIQUE and Collectables Fair is to be held at Dobcross Band Club on Sunday, November 17 from 10am to 4pm.
This will be a new attraction for the village and profits from stall rentals and admissions will be donated to Dobcross Band Club.

GET FESTIVE at St Mary’s Church Christmas fair on Saturday, November 23 from 11am-3pm.
Held at St Mary’s School in Greenfield, the event includes toy stalls, refreshments, cakes, tombola, Santa’s grotto, cards and gifts as well as festive brass band entertainment.
SADDLEWORTH-INSPIRED dance workshops are being held monthly for 7 to 11-year-olds by Born and Bred Dance Theatre.
Each session will have a theme from the area’s past present or future and will be held at St Mary’s School in Greenfield from 1pm-3.30pm on Sunday afternoons.
Parents can return around 3:15pm for refreshments and an informal sharing of dance work created in the workshop.
Themes are: Sunday 24th November – Howzat! A Cricket themed dance workshop; Sunday 22nd December – A Saddleworth Christmas.

The Masquerade Ball will be held at the Saddleworth Hotel and will consist of a drinks reception, four course meal, celebrity presenter, dancers, entertainers, singers, raffle and Grand auction.
The dress code is black tie and masked glamour. Tickets are £55.00 and tables of 8,10,12 are available, with this year’s chosen charity the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

PAY A visit to Santa at a fun-filled Christmas Fair at St Anne’s Lydgate CE Primary School on Saturday, November 30 from 1pm-4pm.
At the fair, organised by the PTA at the school on Cedar Lane in Grascroft, children can visit Santa in his Secret Santa room and pick a gift for their parents. There will also be stalls, crafts, refreshments and a tombola.
ST ANNE’S Church in Lydgate will hold its annual Christmas Fair in the Parish Hall on Sunday, December 1.
The event will run from 12.30pm to 3pm and will offer all sorts of stalls, including Love Lydgate’s stall with calendars, cards and decorations handmade by the Lydgate Stitchers.
There will also be a tombola, a raffle, a café, homebake, and visits to Father Christmas between 12.30pm and 2pm.
Entry is free but proceeds raised from the event will go towards the refurbishment of the Parish Hall

SUPPORT CHARITIES and causes at the monthly coffee morning in the parish community of St Chad, Saddleworth, on Saturday, December 7.
The event runs from 10am – 11.30am at The Parish Centre, Station Road, Uppermill, with funds going to Saddleworth Playgroup for children with special needs.
Entry costs £1, which includes coffee and cake, and all ages welcome. A raffle will be held and greeting cards and other goods are on sale.
TUCK INTO coffee and tasty snacks at the Dobcross Band Club coffee shop on the first Saturday of every month.
Guests can enjoy beans on toast, cakes, toast, scones, teacakes and drinks, which are served up by volunteers to raise funds for the club.
One of the organisers Val Hanson said: “We really appreciate the community support we get each month and want to thank everyone for coming along. The coffee shop is doing really well.”
The next coffee shop will run from 10am-12noon on November 2, followed by a festive event on December 7 when there will be a free raffle to show appreciation for community support.
There will be no coffee shop in January and crown green bowling will not be available over the winter months.
