WI gives £2,000 boost to OMRT

KIND-HEARTED fundraisers from Saddleworth Women’s Institute presented a £2,000 boost to Oldham Mountain Rescue Team after a busy year of events.

Pictured: OMRT’s Steve Ward, Mike Owen, Jake Brown, Paul Mayall, Iain Dredge, and Kelvin Storer receive the cheque from committee members Jess Moreland (president), Tricia Leigh (vice president), Janet Mills (secretary), Claire Ramsden, Karen Kilgannon, Caroline Kiss, Pat Leeson, Michelle Petruzzelli, Emma Carl, and Yvonne Wilkinson.

A festive Christmas Market, a stylish fashion show and successful stalls at OMRT’s open day helped Saddleworth WI raise the funds for the volunteer group.

The team, which has a base at Boarshurst Business Park in Greenfield, was also special guest at the Christmas Market at Saddleworth Rangers Rugby Club.

The cheque was presented to team members, accompanied by search dog Moss, by Saddleworth WI’s president Jess Moreland at their February meeting.

Steve Ward, dog handler, explained: “We spend around £15,000 and probably more on running costs so that will help towards that.”

Jess commented: “We’re so pleased to help this fantastic group. Thank you to all members who helped at our events and made them possible, and to OMRT for their help too.”

OMRT, formed in 1964, is a volunteer team providing a search and rescue service to help people in difficulties in the wild and remote places. Find out more online: omrt.org
