Saddleworth WI launch into 2015

THE SADDLEWORTH WI are ready to launch into 2015 after a very successful last 12 months.

They saw out 2014 with a Christmas Market extravaganza at the Saddleworth Hotel, where an exciting array of stall holders sold their wares and guests enjoyed mulled wine and festive music.

More than £1,000 was raised for their chosen charity of 2014, Oldham Bereavement Support Service.

Recently, members also enjoyed a trip to the Harrogate Country Living Fair while neighbouring WIs visited for a Christmas get-together, with entertainment by the Singing Group.

This was followed by a Food Group Christmas outing to Woolly Knit, Diggle, where they enjoyed Christmas dinner and carols led by Diggle Band.

THE WI kicked off 2015 with a cheque presentation to outgoing charity Oldham Bereavement Support Service at their January meeting, followed by their annual quiz.

At their next meeting on Wednesday, February 4, Jo Briars will discuss the history of preserving and why the WI is famous for it.

She will also talk about her award winning venture ‘Spread the Love’ and members will be able to sample some of the wonderful jams, chutneys and marmalades she has created.

The chosen charity for 2015 is Funky Fitness and Fun, a non-profit making community group which promotes health and well being for people with additional and different needs.

They provide a wide variety of sessions including healthy cooking, all types of fitness including Bollywood dancing, martial arts, brain gym and laughter yoga.

The group is raising money for a minibus to provide a service further afield and enable them to take day trips out and provide holidays.

The Saddleworth WI meet on the first Wednesday of each month at the Saddleworth Hotel at 7.30pm. New members and guests are always welcome. Find out more on their website www.saddleworthwi.com or Facebook and Twitter.

They would like to wish everyone Happy New Year and thank them for their support in 2014 and hope this will continue into the WI. Centenary year of 2015, when they have several events planned including a Centenary Celebration afternoon tea in September – more details to follow soon.
